Meet Karissa – Michigan Photography Assistant
With my wedding photography growing by leaps and bounds, this year I have decided to take on a regular wedding assistant! Karissa is as sweet and funny as a young woman can be, and will be helping me make awesome photographs for my amazing couples.
Running, carrying, fetching, distracting, corralling, and more… it’s going to be a busy year for her, haha!
Every photographer is different, and it’s important that an assistant learn how the ins and outs of how you work- so from time to time, we get together to do some mutual shooting and gear testing. We usually use each other as models as we do- and I wanted to share with you some of the results- consider it an introduction!
Please leave some love for this new member of my team.
Welcome, Karissa!
The shots below are balanced daylight along with a 580ii flash through a softbox…
Can you believe that the two images in this gif below where taken just moments apart? When you control the light with off-camera flash, you can manipulate the “time” of the shot- “night” vs. “day” can be your choice.
Even through the rain, we slogged through, wrapping the gear in plastic covers. I love the film feel of the black and white shot.
On a separate (although still soggy) day, we took advantage of the golden fields surrounding my house…
Karissa is also following the photography path- she has started a business of her own and will be learning professional shooting under me. I hope she has a blast picking up the tools she can use in her own business as we work together!

Hey OH! Thanks so much, Heather! They were really cute and I had such a great weekend with you. I really look forward to our next business days together!
Thanks a bunch, too, for adding a link to my site. I do REALLY appreciate this opportunity!
These photos are beautiful! I am so happy for you both to be working together. I know your going to have fun and do great work together.
What an assistant you have! The shots in pink sweater are my favorite!
Sweet! Great shots and all the best to the new team
Love that field – Such a cute set of portraits!
I love the soaked black-and-white shot too!
Great photos. She looks lovely and very personable.
She is adorable!! I am sure she will love working with you!
She’s a cutie! Fun shots as well.
Hmm Michigan weather reminds me of Vancouver weather from the looks of it
Love the first shot!
What a terrific way to train an assistant! She’ll get first hand knowledge of what you do and want plus some really fabulous portraits. And that gif is amazing!
Terrific session. I love the different perspectives you achieved here. Hopefully this will inspire her photography
These are phenomenal! Think she will be a great addition.
